HypnoBirth teaches a way of experiencing childbirth in an easier, safer, more comfortable and often pain-free manner, free of the fear that causes tension and pain, and with as little medical intervention as possible.
Perhaps for a minute or two you could forget everything you have ever been told about childbirth. What we are told is usually a tale of discomfort, pain, helplessness and humiliation. Many of the women that you meet, seeing that you are pregnant, will have a strong desire to give you advice, and will try to outdo one another with the horror birth stories they can tell. It’s no wonder we end up feeling that it’s a pretty bad scene. BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT! Let me tell you about a better way…about HypnoBirth.
Putting your mind in charge
Because our bodies and minds are intimately connected, mental
activity and belief have an effect on the body. The person
who delays a cold long enough to finish a project and the
parent who stays awake throughout the night with a colicky
baby are able to do these things because the mind is in
charge of the body. This is as it should be.
Mothers all over the world give birth every day in deep
relaxation. Using their minds, these women relax their bodies
so that their uteruses can do the work for which they were
designed. The result is that the muscles work as they should
and the babies are born more quickly, easily, in a state
of relaxation, and with very little pain. Hypnosis and self-hypnosis
are methods to achieve deep relaxation so that women can
give birth to their babies naturally and comfortably. Birth
can and ought to be easy for most mothers. The mothers with
whom we work know that this is true; they experience it.
Why Hypnosis ?
People who have studied hypnosis generally agree that a hypnotic trance involves an altered state of awareness in which you concentrate so intensely that your subconscious mind becomes highly responsive to suggestion and able to tune out distractions. In this state of highly focused concentration, you can use the power of your mind to alter your perception of pain, including the pain generally associated with childbirth.
The conditions in the birthing rooms of clinics are often not ideal, and an important gain from this training is the ability to control one’s own inner state without being affected by the surrounding environment.
Why use hypnosis for pregnancy & childbirth?
-
Women using hypnotherapy have a shorter labour, especially
in the first stage (first time mothers tend to take
only half as long).
-
Many fewer births require surgical intervention.
-
Mothers are less exhausted so have more control and recover
faster.
-
There is less need for medication, and often none at
all. As you may be aware, any type of medication can
carry a risk to both mother and baby.
-
Mothers able to control their discomfort levels by the use of
self-hypnosis so that the birth ultimately is as relaxed
and possible.
-
Babies have shown to cry less, sleep and feed better and generally
calmer, possibly due to a diminished trauma at birth.
